CHICAGO MEDIA ACTION ALERT: October 17, 2004 http://www.chicagomediaaction.org Monday, October 18 marks International Media Democracy Day -- an international day of education, protest, and change around media issues. Chicago Media Action will mark the day with an educational action at the CBS Chicago studios on Monday, the 18th. CBS News, particularly 60 Minutes, has gained notoriety notorious for its botched expos\'e of George W. Bush's military service record, but that report replaced a damning report about White House chicanery and forged documents asserting a (long-disproved) link between Saddam Hussein and weapons-grade uranium from Niger. What's worse, in the past week, CBS's parent, Viacom, turned down a non-partisan get-out-the-vote advocacy advertisement. CMA is joining the call to urge 60 Minutes to broadcast the uranium expos\'e before the 2004 election. CMA is also calling for a denial of broadcast license renewals for CBS and Viacom's Chicago radio and television licenses. CMA will hold an educational outreach action outside the Chicago Viacom offices and studios for its Channel 2 Television and for 3 of its 7 Chicago radio stations -- 630 N. McClurg Court, downtown Chicago, on Monday, October 18, from 3pm to 6pm. We encourage you to join us.
