Review of "Weapons of Mass Deception"

Posted by Mike - January 6, 2004 (entry 124)

'Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq' is a timely masterpiece on media, the public relations industry, and the rush to war with Iraq. John Stauber and Sheldon Rampton shed light on how the lies that led us to war were carefully and strategically transmitted to the masses through every outlet we use to gather information. Filtering through the deception and misinformation that saturated our airwaves before the invasion of Iraq, Stauber and Rampton illustrate to the reader a clear and valid account of the behind the scenes PR campaign that went into making Saddam and Iraq seem to be a serious threat rather than another rogue nation. This book is solid proof that the power elite in this country purposely misled the public in order to gain their acceptance to engage in a war that was planned long before September 11th and exposes how the watchdog role of our media has morphed into a lapdog for the PR industry.
