Federal Communications Commission (FCC)

The Federal Communication Commission is the government body in the United States responsible for handling media policy for broadcast media--television, radio, satellite, and cable. The FCC has come under considerable pressure in 2003, as the Commission (led by its chair, Michael Powell) tried to implement a host of unpopular media ownership rules, which would make a highly-commercialized pro-corporate U.S. media even more commercialized and corporate. The result was a popular backlash against those rules unparalleled in the FCC's history.

Chicago Media Action has been active in efforts to improve popular input and accountability at the FCC. The following are links to assorted articles and efforts that Chicago Media Action has taken in this regard.
